Our Story
About HomePerk
Our mission was born out of necessity. Our founder, Josh Kaplan was one of the top loan officers in the mortgage industry and helped thousands of people achieve the dream of homeownership. At the same time he watched tens of thousands of qualified individuals and dreamers get their offers denied, struggle to close and maybe not close at all. This was all due to one problem, these people that wanted to buy a home for themselves or their family, while being credit-worthy, weren’t sitting on a pile of money. When the majority of the country lives paycheck to paycheck, the idea that the average person has an extra ten, twenty, thirty thousand dollars laying around is far-fetched, yet its the expectation that the system is built on.
One third of the younger generation expects to be gifted their down payment from their parents. We are the answer for the other two thirds. Josh specialized in VA loans, so the first program he created, Closing Cost Help, was and still is the only financing solution for Veterans and Active Duty Service members who want to buy a home and are qualified for the mortgage but don’t have the cash to close.
Josh, joined by a group of industry experts from bankers on mainstreet to bankers on Wall Street, who share a vision for increased access to homeownership, came together to create HomePark. The goal: an easy way for employers to get involved, unlock homeownership for their employees and better their employees’ lives. A win/win for the employees as an opportunity to purchase a home and for the employers as a recruiting and retention tool. There are about 4 million home purchases per year, but almost 4x that amount of people could buy a home if they had access to just an additional $10,000. Home Perk is here to bridge that gap.
